Home Learning Week 6, Term 4, Due Friday November 27th

We need you to design a card for Mount Primary.  The card will be used for different things when the School needs to, such as a thank you card, good luck, well done and other things.  Take your time and put some effort into your design as yours may be the one chosen for the School.  The details and success criteria are below.  Please use the sheet you have glued into your books for the logo and Mountie pictures and colours. 

WALHT design the official Mount Primary ‘card’.

The winning design will be turned into a card and sent to people who the school wishes to thank.


Success Criteria:
1.   must be portait
2.   needs to include Mountie
3.   The school logo (see below)
4.   coloured
5.   a drawing of part of the school
6.   your name and year on the back of the drawing

Home Learning Week 5, Term 4, Due Friday November 20th

Egg Sitting
You are tasked with looking after your new egg buddy! You need to hard boil an egg which will then be your responsibility to look after. You must look after your egg 24/7.... If you are unable to look after your egg, you need to find a babysitter and log it in a babysitting log book.
You will need to create something to keep your egg in so that it is safe and warm.  You can bring your egg to school with you. 
On Friday your egg buddy will be judged on its condition and you will earn money depending on how well you have cared for it. 
Mrs Styles or Miss MacLennan must sign your egg buddy so that we know it is your original egg that survives the whole week.

Summer Fun 
Summer is coming... And so is athletics! It's time to get out, enjoy the sun and get fit.  Your challenge this week is to exercise.  It can be anything.  You might go down to the beach and practise long jump, sprints or ball throw. You might climb the Mount. Maybe you will have a family game of tennis? What about challenging your mum or dad to a game one on one of basketball?
Record your activities in your homework book and include how long you exercised for.  Take some photos as evidence.

Fun Art Activity

Learn how to draw a minion.  Follow the simple instructions on the link below to create a cool minion.  Challenge yourself to draw different minions or use the 'how to draw' tab and try drawing different animals and characters. 
Create a picture collage on a device or by drawing a collage to display your awesome creations.

This week's homework activity is creative but a little tricky.  Follow the link to find the step by step instructions to make your symmetry creation. 
You do not have to use coloured paper if you don't have any.  You can be as creative as you like.  The instructions are only a guideline to help you.
Your creation can be as big or small as you like.

Homework Activity
For homework this week you are to create a poster advertising for a new best friend.
Think about adverts that you have seen and how they have persuaded you to buy/want their product. What qualities do you like in a best friend?  What is important to you?  How can you be a best friend to them?
Think about how you can make your poster enticing to your audience. Include colour, pictures, a border and big, bold, attractive lettering.

Activity: As we are lucky enough to be hosting the FIFA U20 Football World Cup. please complete the following activity. Have fun.

Students are to choose a superstar footballer and find out as much information as they can about him / her. Information they need to include: / Name / Date of Birth / Country of Birth / Team(s) they play for / Position they play / 2 attributes they have and examples of when they have shown these attributes / 3 interesting facts about your superstar eg. Advertising endorsements, charity work, etc. / What impact has your superstar had on the game of football? They can present their information any way they like…. encourage creativity! (Examples: poster, powerpoint presentation, booklet, drama, song, cartoon, video interview with ‘superstar’, etc.)

Imagine you were one of the Anzac soldiers to arrive in Gallipoli on April 25th 1915. Write a diary entry to describe how you were feeling when you first arrived. What did you see and hear? How did your fellow soldiers react? Read the information about the day itself to help make your diary entry both informative and convincing. Use descriptive language to help the reader understand your experience.

MOUNTIE - Think of the Mountie and the 4 aspects, self manager, learner, communicator and team player. We want you to create a Mountie poster (or something like it) that best represents what the Mountie means to you. Think about each aspect and how you think it relates to you and your learning at MMPS. What is a team player??? etc.

Activity - We want to start a Covie News report every week (or second week).
-You are to write a letter stating why you would be a great news presenter like on T.V, what skills do you have that would be useful for a news presenter? give examples.
- We will also need roving reporters to interview guests, staff members and fellow Covies. Add any ideas you might have that we could do as in news segments etc.
We will read applications and may get students to present to the class, then decide who will be our first Covie news presenters and reporters

As a fun homework challenge this week we would like you to learn the fun dance moves from  the latest Madagascar movie that gets released this week. It's called The Penguin Shake. Activity: Imagine that you're going on a summer holiday. You could be going somewhere in NZ or abroad. Choose a place to visit and write a list of all the things that you would need to take with you. Think carefully about your list. You have to imagine that you are in charge of the holiday so don't rely on your parents to bring anything that you forget. This could be good practice if you are going away on holiday this summer. Present your list in a creative way. Have fun :-)

- Think about what you want to achieve in your life, where do you want to work? live? travel? visit? study, university? hobbies? sports that you will play? Create a creative presentation of what you want to have done before you are 30. You may need to think about the steps you need to take for example if you want to be a doctor in Finland then you will need to study somewhere and for a long time and may not get much time for much other activities.

Whether you are Year Five or Year Six, we would like your thoughts on your learning journey this year in an MLE environment compared to your experience in a single cell learning environment. Be honest and present your thoughts on a Google Doc so that we can all see and share the findings.

- Find a story and information about a NZer that has done something out of the ordinary and is well known in their field. Can be any NZ person that has done something that is great, fantastic, inspirational or a world first. Locate an article, take notes, create a google doc, youtube videos be creative.

Activity:
- what inspires you to do well in school and life in general? Your challenge is to create an INSPIRATION BOARD of some kind. Think of what is important to you e.g photos of  family, songs, sports people, quotes that inspire and where you want to be in the future living, working etc. What drives you to do better everyday, if you do not know think hard. 


- Look on pinterest or google images for examples. 



- We do not need you to bring them to school, however take a photo and email or send in. This is for you to have something to look at to remind yourself where you want to go and what will help you get there.

Activity:
- Last time you got to spend $1,000,000. Now your challenge is to look into poverty around the world. Research how people live with no money and very little resources. NZ has around 250,000 children living in poverty. Explain why they are living in poverty and give me your opinion of why they are living like that, and what are we able to do to help these underprivileged children. Why should we be worried about these children and families?

Activity: Imagine you have visited one of the Seven Wonders of the World while you are on holiday. Write a postcard home, giving details of what you have experienced. Draw/ Colour the scene on the front of the postcard. Be creative.

Term 3, Week 5, August 18th

Activity:
- WOW you are lucky, and you have just won $1,000,000 dollars, you now have till friday to spend every dollar or you will lose it. How will you spend your money??? Will you buy new things? give to charity? give to family? buy a house, car etc? Your challenge is to spend the money and keep track of what you have spent e.g if you buy a new car you need to know how much it will cost, use the internet, newspapers etc to find out the exact prices of stuff, you cannot go over the $1,000,000 get as close as you can to the amount. 
- If you give money to charity inform us about how that charity will use it, same with giving to others. 
- You will present your spending creatively (remember you only have till friday to spend it be creative).

Activity: As we are taking part in Team Orkney's Amazing Race on Thursday this week, we would like you to create your own Amazing Race. You can do some research on past Amazing Races and discover the differing countries that have been visited. Include ten different countries in your race and an activity that needs to be completed in those countries. An example: Ride in a gondola through Venice. Have Fun.

Activity: 

The Football World Cup has started and it is a great sporting event. Your activity is to create a page or two in your home learning book or on the computer of facts and information about the Football World Cup. Research some facts from the current World Cup and on previous World Cups, what country has won it the most? What players have played in the most World Cups? Who has scored the most goals? How many people watch the games? etc. As much interesting facts that you can find.

Activity:

A couple of weeks ago we were lucky enough to have a trip to Classic Flyers. This was a great trip and I know that the Covies learnt a great deal from the experience, with some lucky students able to have a plane ride or go up the flight tower. Your challenge is to create an advertisement for Classic Flyers to promote the business so they get more people going to visit. Think of clear bold lettering, pictures and examples of what they do there. 


Remember they have a cafe, museum and they restore old planes. Create your advertisement how ever you want, on the computer, in your homework book or poster be CREATIVE!!!

Flight - Your challenge is to create some kind of flying object made from scrap materials found around the house. It maybe a paper plane, boomerang, glider, rocket etc. On Friday we will have some tests we will look at distance, accuracy, craftsmanship, durability and style. Each category will be out of 10 with a possible score of 50. The highest score or scores will win a prize. You may have adult help however it is your challenge. In your homework book you are to write about the process of how you made your machine and the challenges. Photos of the process would be great too.

This term we would like you to create or design a house that a flying insect could use. For example the bed should be the exact measurement for the insect of your choice. Your house must have at least four differing rooms. We will leave it up to you and your creative imaginations. This project is due to be handed in on Friday 27th June.

MOUNTIE - Think of the Mountie and the 4 aspects, self manager, learner, communicator and team player. We want you to create a Mountie poster (or something like it) that best represents what the Mountie means to you. Think about each aspect and how you think it relates to you and your learning at MMPS. What is a team player??? etc.

Activity:
Watch The Piano animation by Aidan Gibbons on You Tube. Imagine that you were the old man in the video. If he had a suitcase full of memories, what sort of items would be in the suitcase? It is up to you to decide. You can draw or list the items in your book. Or you can be creative and surprise Mr Plane and I on Friday. Have fun.

-Your child has been given a Study Ladder username and login, this is to complete set activities and win certificates and points. The expectation is 30minutes a week if a device is not available they can complete before school. 




Home Learning Week 9


Spelling - your ten words from the harder list e.g if you are list 8 you are extending yourself with list 9

KOS -  You will have Keeping Ourselves Safe activities to complete at home, some with your parents

Challenge - We want to start a Covie News report every week (or second week).
-You are to write a letter stating why you would be a great news presenter like on T.V, what skills do you have that would be useful for a news presenter? give examples.
- We will also need roving reporters to interview guests, staff members and fellow Covies. Add any ideas you might have that we could do as in news segments etc.
We will read applications and may get students to present to the class, then decide who will be our first Covie news presenters and reporters

ART  (optional) - We will need a back drop for behind the news presenters with some sort of logo (like kid president) the best design will get to be on every news story. Think about the Cove, MMPS and learning at Mount Primary. This will also become a logo that goes on our roving news reporter jackets.
